Jabal
Al Bayda In
addition to the Nabetean ruins of Petra, Wadi Musa has many other attractions. For
example, Bayda is one of the oldest sites in the Middle East showing evidence of
habitation by pre-pottery Neolithic humans. Excavations indicate that these early people
were herders who were beginning to experiment with a semi-settled agricultural existence.
On top of Jabal Harun (Mount Aaron), the highest summit in the region, there is a small
white-domed mosque, built in the 14C AD, and said to contain the tomb of Prophet Harun,
Moses' brother. |
