Beit 'Abarah Before Moses died on Mount Nebo, he named Joshua to succeed
him as leader of the Israelites and entrusted to him the task of leading his people into
the Promised Land. Beit Abarah is the place where Joshua led the Israelites across
the River Jordan. As the Israelites crossed, the water stopped running, and they were able
to cross dry-shod. Its location corresponds to the description of the
Israelites crossing found in the Book of Joshua (Joshua 3:16): "The people
crossed opposite Jericho." |
