Gilead

Gilead is the region east of the River Jordan, and north of the kingdoms of Moab and Ammon. Jacob fled to Gilead to escape his father-in-law Laban the Aramaean (Genesis 31:22-23). "Three days later Laban was told that Jacob had fled. Taking his brothers with him he pursued him for seven days and overtook him at Mount Gilead." According to the Book of Joshua, Gilead was also part of the land that Moses gave to the tribe of Gad (Joshua 13:25): "The land they received was Jazer, all the towns of Gilead…."
